The
Research & Development Centre for Iron
& Steel (RDCIS) is the corporate R&D unit of Steel Authority of India
Limited (SAIL). It is India’s premier research organisation in the field
of ferrous metallurgy. The main Centre located in Ranchi, was
established in 1972 and its modern laboratory Complex was inaugurated in
1986 .
Equipped with more than 350 advanced
diagnostic equipment and 6 pilot facilities under 15 major laboratories,
RDCIS undertakes research projects encompassing the entire spectrum of
iron and steel starting from raw materials to finished products. The

making significant contributions to the overall performance of SAIL,
RDCIS has developed and introduced innovative systems and procedures
which have enabled quantification of inputs, outputs and measurement of
the performance.
RDCIS
has been collaborating with leading research and academic institutes,
both in India and abroad. Some of the leading institutes from abroad
have been TSNICHERMET of Russia, National Science Foundation of U.S.A..
The Centre collaborates with the IITs, IISc., CSIR laboratories and
other reputed organisations of India on need basis.
While
catering primarily to the SAIL, RDCIS has been providing technical

Automation & Information Technology play a very vital role in the
present day industrial environment. RDCIS has a very strong and

from Process Automation & Control to Process Modeling & Business Process
Computerization. Separate divisions have been setup to give impetus to
these activities. The center has many successful projects & products to
its credit in these disciplines.
