Iron & Steel Industry is passing through a buoyant stage
after sustaining the worst ever phases. With the recovery
in the global economy, the demand for steel products of
high quality at competitive cost has become the main focus
worldwide and will continue to remain so in the coming
years. To keep pace with this, steel makers are
continuously adopting sophisticated technologies to synergise the entire process chain from Coke Oven to
Blast Furnace, BOF, Continuous Casting to Rolling Mills
and Planning to Marketing Functions. Automation and IT
play a pivotal role in adopting the innovative ideas and new
technological solutions to give a competitive edge to the
steel makers, especially in the emerging era of mergers,
acquisitions & consolidations.
Over the years, the level of Automation, Computerization
and Information Technology has constantly improved
encompassing not only Integrated Control Systems, but also
areas such as Expert Systems, ERP Solutions, Process
Simulations and Quality Aassurance. These areas are
witnessing tremendous development with respect to
technology as well as applications in process industries.
This has necessitated the exchange of technical
information and implementation issues among the steel
and automation fraternity as also deliberation on
challenges and opportunities existing today.
In view of this, Computer Society of India (CSI), Ranchi
Chapter, in association with R& D Center for Iron & Steel
(RDCIS), Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) and
MECON Limited is organizing an International Conference
on Automation and Information Technology in Iron
and Steel Making Processes (AITISM'07) during 26-28
February 2007. The Conference is supported by Dept. of
Information Technology, Govt. of India.
There will be around
250 participants from SAIL, RINL, Essar, JSW Steel, Tata Steel,
suppliers such as Siemens VAI, SAP, SMS-Demag, Danieli Automation, Rockwell,
Morgan Construction and academic institutions.
This conference shall provide an excellent opportunity to
all concerned to share their information and to find out
ways and means of finding solutions to the challenges being
faced by steel industry and to avail of the opportunities
available in the industry. Following areas will be
deliberated upon:
Automation and Computerization of
Coke Oven
Iron & Steel Making
Rolling Mills
Energy Management
Information Technology in Steel Industry.
Networking / Communication / Process Control
/Instrumentation.
Computerization of Finance / Purchase /Personnel /
Inventory Control and PPC Function.
Expert / Knowledge Management
